Clinical Training Program

Graduate Clinical Training in Communication Sciences and Disorders

Our Master’s program in Communication Sciences and Disorders offers hands-on, progressive clinical training that prepares students to become skilled, compassionate clinicians. Students complete 5–6 semesters of practica, starting with a light caseload (about 4 hours per week) that increases each semester.

Through the University Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic, students deliver low-cost diagnostic and treatment services to infants, children, and adults with speech, language, hearing, and swallowing disorders. Clinical experiences include:

  • Diagnostic clinics
  • Preschool Language Learning Group
  • Aphasia Group
  • Fluency Specialty Clinic
  • Community audiology screenings
  • School-based assessment and intervention
  • Individual speech and language treatment

The program partners with community organizations to serve diverse populations, including:

  • House of Tiny Treasures
  • Jewish Federation of Greater Houston
  • Magnolia Multi-Service Center
  • SER-Niños Charter School System
  • Third Ward Multi-Service Center

Additional outreach includes Cougar Communication Groups, a summer program serving children ages 2–14, and a Mobile Unit that provides hearing, language, and cognitive screenings at community events in the Third Ward and East End. Together, structured coursework, diverse clinical experiences, and community engagement prepare graduates to succeed as speech-language pathologists.
