Ying Xu: Finding the Heart of the Matter

Ph.D. candidate Ying Xu’s personal connection to cardiovascular disease is fueling her research into more precise treatments for heart failure and arrhythmia. Supported by an American Heart Association predoctoral fellowship, Xu is investigating how the AKAP12-PDE8A signaling pathway disrupts heart function and whether targeting it could help protect patients from cardiac dysfunction.

A team at the University of Houston’s Cullen College of Engineering will be taking part in a $500,000 research grant from the Department of Energy’s Advanced Mining and Mineral Production Technologies Office that aims to use AI to improve critical mineral mapping and characterization while drilling.
