Chris Dawe, assistant vice president for Health & Wellbeing, shared his enthusiasm, stating, “Our very own Division of Student Affairs teammate, Brittani Clarkson, has accepted my offer to serve as our next Director of Wellness & Health Promotion! Her exceptional leadership, student-centered approach, and extensive experience make her the ideal fit to lead UH Wellness forward.”

Brittani’s journey with the University of Houston began in 2022, when she joined UH Wellness as the assistant director of Wellness Programs. In this role, she led preventive health initiatives, supported the department’s strategic mission, and worked across campus to empower students with the tools and resources needed to build sustainable health habits. Her work has had a lasting impact on student wellbeing and has contributed to the growth of wellness programming university wide.

With over 12 years of experience in public health—including work at the federal, state, county, and collegiate levels—Brittani brings a well-rounded perspective to the role. Her professional background spans areas such as public health disaster preparedness, immunization outreach, and health education. Her approach is grounded in compassion, evidence-based practice, and a clear focus on student success.

In her new role as Director, Brittani will oversee all facets of UH Wellness, including health promotion programming, peer education, and strategic outreach. She is committed to expanding the department’s reach and continuing to build a culture where wellness is not only encouraged but embedded in the everyday experience of UH students, staff, and faculty. She will also serve as a key leader within the Health & Wellbeing Leadership Team and Student Affairs Leadership Team (SLT).

Brittani holds a bachelor's degree in health sciences from the University of Missouri and a Master of Public Health from Liberty University. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Public Health at UTHealth Houston, further deepening her commitment to improving public health outcomes. She also currently serves as the President of the Southwest College Health Association, representing regional institutions and championing student wellness initiatives.

Originally from Texas, Brittani is also a proud mother of three boys. In her free time, she enjoys watching true crime documentaries, traveling, and spending time with her family. Her personal and professional life reflect a deep passion for supporting others and fostering healthy, balanced communities.

The Division of Student Affairs would like to thank the hiring committee—Tonya Joseph, Kim Clark, Kaila Garrett, and Michael Crook—and all campus partners who participated in the nationwide search and feedback process. Their thoughtful input and engagement were essential in selecting the best candidate for this leadership role.

Brittani’s leadership marks an exciting new chapter for UH Wellness, and we look forward to the positive and lasting impact she will make across our campus community.
