Please join us for a CPH Lecture Series sponsored event, with the Digital Research Commons (UH Libraries), the Russian Cultural Center, and the UH Department of History. Dr. Serguei Oushakine, Professor of Anthropology and Slavic Languages and Literatures, and Director of the Program in Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies at Princeton University, will present, "Second-Hand Nostalgia: On Soviet Things and Post-Soviet People." This talk will be held Wednesday, April 4th at 5:30pm, at Agnes Arnold Hall, Room 210.

Dr. Oushakine examines the materiality of post-Soviet nostalgia through Soviet objects and historicizes the implications of these objects in the past, as well as their contemporary relevance. Through museum exhibitions and photo-projects in Russia and Belarus, Dr. Oushakine further contextualizes nostalgia for Soviet materiality.

The second part of Dr. Oushakine's visit is an event at Russian Cultural Center "Our Texas" in the Museum District. There is an entrance fee of $15, and guests will enjoy a contemporary Soviet-style buffet.
